HSBC Launches Expat Guide To Finance
Friday, April 22, 2011

The Guardian newspaper, in association with HSBC Bank International, has launched a series of online financial guides to help expats manage their money when moving or living abroad.

The first guide: Expat Guide to Money Management launched today (April 21) and is the first guide in a three part series running throughout the year.

The Expat Guide to Money Management, which is now live on the dedicated Guardian website (http://www.guardian.co.uk/hsbc-expat), offers expats information to help them deal with setting up their finances in their new country, planning for a change in cost of living and the importance of understanding the tax implications in their new country.

Lisa Wood, Head of Marketing at HSBC Bank International, said:

“Starting a new life abroad is a fantastic and exciting experience, but there is a lot of planning to do to ensure all the necessary arrangements are in place ahead of the move. We speak with expats on a daily basis, and through this we know the financial frustrations they face when looking to move to a new country– from moving money between different locations and currencies to dealing with differing tax situations."

“With this in mind, we wanted to make expat finances as clear and straightforward as possible, and so have compiled this guide to highlight the different financial considerations expats must be aware of. We hope this guide will make the financial aspects of moving abroad clear and simple, so that expats can get on with planning their new life overseas.”

The Expat Guide to Finance series will continue with two further additions set to launch later this year. The second in the series, Family Finance, will cover family finances and help expats address day to day issues such as dealing in multiple currencies, school fees, insurance and inheritance planning.

The third and final instalment, Growing your Wealth, will look at how expats should prepare for their retirement. The guides also feature real life case studies of expats talking about the financial challenges they have dealt with when moving and living abroad.
