Gibraltar Promotes Finance Centre In Switzerland
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
To further financial sector cooperation between Gibraltar and Switzerland, Gibraltar's
Chief Minister, Peter Caruana undertook an official visit to
Switzerland starting on May 24 and concluding May 27 during which time seminars and presentations were attended by key industry players in
Switzerland.
Accompanied by Finance Centre Director James Tipping, the four-day visit is
the equivalent of Gibraltar's annual Finance Centre day in London, according
to the government.
While in Switzerland the Chief Minister hosted a financial services breakfast
in Zurich and lunch in Geneva, delivering speeches at both. These events and
seminars and presentations, the government noted, are extremely well supported
by the Swiss financial services community, and are important to Gibraltar's
finance centre. Whilst in Switzerland, the Chief Minister also hosted a lunch in Zurich by
Credit Suisse and dinner in Geneva by Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch, two Swiss
banks with operations in Gibraltar.
"[These events] are part of a now well established and developing relationship
between our respective finance centres in relation to banking, wealth and asset
management and the funds sectors. This year’s events will enable us to
present Gibraltar’s now up and running new tax regime and the many opportunities
that it provides for further growth and development of our finance centre business
with Switzerland," a government spokesperson said.
